M. E. O’Brien will explore the tensions between utopian socialism and Marxism in family abolitionist thinking, identifying in mass protests moments of supersession of the private household.
M. E. O’Brien (she/her) writes on gender, freedom and capitalism. She recently published the book Family Abolition: Capitalism and the Communizing of Care (Pluto, 2023). She serves on the editorial board of the magazines Pinko and Parapraxis. O’Brien coordinated the New York City Trans Oral History Project. She teaches queer studies at NYU.
